How often should I get my teeth cleaned?

Teeth scaling or oral prophylaxis is a routine dental hygiene procedure done in the dental office by the dentist or the dental hygienist. It is the process of removal of tartar that is deposited on the tooth surfaces. Generally, scaling is recommended once a year as a routine dental health procedure. In some of you the scaling may be required every 6 months and the frequency is dependent on the rate at which tartar deposits on the teeth. In people who have undergone surgical procedures like a flap surgery or LASER treatment for gum infection, the frequency of scaling may be once in 3 months for the first year and subsequently as a routine procedure.
